Aquatics & Fitness Chiller Plant

Location: Charlottesville, VA
Construction Schedule: April 2004 - August 2005
Construction Value: $7,224,000*

Description:

As the Mechanical work of this project was the most significant aspect of the Work, Sullivan Mechanical was the Construction Manager and Daniel was a Prime Subcontractor to Sullivan performing concrete/steel support for the Chiller/Cooling Tower Equipment, louvered screening, and the underground chilled water piping.

The project included installation of Chillers with associated equipment in the Aquatic and Fitness Building and constructing the exterior Cooling Towers with associated structural steel and concrete foundation. The project was difficult to construct due to the following:  very tight construction site with little construction “lay-down” area, the cooling tower equipment being located on a complex concrete/steel foundation built on a steep incline and difficult installation of underground chilled water piping being installed in roads, parking lots, on steep inclines and through a ravine.

The project was successfully completed approximately 5 months ahead of schedule.

*The contract amounts are for Sullivan Mechanical Contractor, Inc., the Construction Manager, and include the entire project.   Daniel & Company’s involvement on the project was a Prime Subcontractor.
