Construction Schedule: August 2009 - August 2010
Construction Value: $6,363,680
Description:
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Sculpture Garden project consists of a total of 196,000 sf of total area, 34,000 sf of which is constructed over a Parking Deck.
The construction over the Parking Deck consists of a waterproofing membrane with rigid polystryene insulation to create the design elevation and slopes, and then another roofing/waterproofing membrane. A drainage layer of expanded shale is then placed on the waterproof membrane, with either topsoil and sod or planting. Selected areas receive pavers-granite, concrete, brick or asphalt and IPE decking.
Similar finishes are installed over the 162,000 sf area of the "on grade" portion of The Sculpture Garden.
The Project also includes 4 "water feature" fountains, two of which are in close proximity to the newly completed Museum expansion, one a cascading water feature running alongside Monumental Stairs, and one located on top of the Parking Deck.
